Alberto Burri, "Sackcloth" (1953)

The italian artist Alberto Burri worked with reference to his war experience as a doctor. His abstract composition after the War, such as Sackcloth, were formed from textured, bandage-like material stretched across the canvas and drenched with paint. The dark stains revealed in various places appear like gapping wounds beneath the density of the material. Anna Moszynska.
